Preguntar una pregunta

We don't usually use preguntar (to ask) and pregunta (question) in the same sentence; we frequently use hacer instead of preguntar when we are using the noun pregunta:
English:
I asked a question.
Spanish:
Pregunté una pregunta. (It's grammatically correct, but it sounds a little redundant.)
Hice una pregunta. (This sounds much better.)
