Unas palabras de ánimo (a few words of encouragement)
💂 If all this feels daunting, that's normal. Just two thoughts:
-
The subjunctive is a small part of the language: the vast majority of the verbs we use are not in the subjunctive. We can't even practice speaking in the subjunctive, as we do with, say, the preterite, because it is not a tense: it is a mood, a sort of alternate form of the verb that we only use in certain constructions.
-
Many people who speak Spanish at an almost native-like level still make mistakes with the subjunctive.
So, learn the conjugations and the uses, but don't obsess about always getting it right.
Drilling one topic until it feels easy is tempting, but mixing different topics together builds more flexible, durable knowledge. The variety forces your brain to work harder, and that's what makes it last.
