Un tiempo verbal
El condicional, que en inglés se forma con would, es en español un tiempo verbal. Igual que en el futuro, el sufijo de conjugación se pone después del infinitivo del verbo.
💂 The conditional, which in English is formed with would, is a verb tense in Spanish. As in the future, the conjugation suffix is placed after the infinitive form of the verb.

Cómo funciona (how it works)
Los verbos que son irregulares en el futuro lo son en el tiempo condicional de la misma manera:

Construcciones condicionales
si - if
Tipo 1: Todo en presente, o presente + futuro
💂 Type 1: All in the present tense, or present + future.
Lo usamos para casos en los que el cumplimiento de la condición garantiza un resultado obvio.
💂 We use it for cases in which the fulfillment of the condition guarantees an obvious result.
Si no estoy feliz, no trabajo bien. (If I am not happy, I don't work well.)
Si te vas ahora, llegarás a tiempo al aeropuerto. (If you leave now, you will arrive on time at the airport.)
Si no respiras, te mueres. (If you don't breathe, you die.)
Tipo 2: Suposición imaginaria + condicional
💂 Type 2: Imaginary supposition + conditional.
La suposición siempre va en imperfecto de subjuntivo*.
💂 The supposition is always in the imperfect subjunctive tense*.
Si yo tuviera un millón de dólares, compraría una casa grande. (If I had a million dollars, I would buy a large house.)
Si María llamara, le diría lo que pienso. (If María called, I would tell her what I think.)
A veces usamos primero el condicional y después la suposición.
💂 Sometimes we use the conditional first and then the supposition.
Compraría una casa grande si tuviera un millón de dólares. (I would buy a large house if I had a million dollars.)
Le diría a María lo que pienso si llamara. (I would tell María what I think if she called.)
*We “borrow” the imperfecto de subjuntivo tense to build the supposition part of a conditional sentence the same way we “borrow” the past tense in English: If I sang = Si yo cantara. As we know, this is not the standard use of the imperfecto de subjuntivo tense.
Tipo 3: What could have happened, but didn't happen
Para este último tipo de construcción condicional necesitamos usar el pluscuamperfecto de subjuntivo (hubiera) y el condicional compuesto (habría).
💂 For this last type of conditional construction we need to use the pluscuamperfecto de subjuntivo tense (hubiera) and the compound conditional tense (habría).
Si hubiera sabido eso, no habría dicho nada. (If I had known that, I would not have said anything.)
Si no me hubieras despertado a las cinco de la mañana, no habría estado tan cansado todo el día. (If you had not woken me up at five in the morning, I would not have been so tired all day.)

La suposición y el condicional son independientes, no tienen que ir en el mismo tiempo (es decir, podemos combinar los tipos 2 y 3).
💂 The supposition and the conditional are independent, they do not have to go in the same tense (i.e., we can combine types 2 and 3).
Si yo hubiera manejado más rápido, Sara no estaría enojada conmigo ahora. (If I had driven faster, Sara would not be mad at me now.)
(Flipped version): Sara no estaría enojada conmigo ahora si yo hubiera manejado más rápido. (Sara would not be mad at me now if I had driven faster.)
Nota: en algunas regiones la gente usa la forma subjuntiva hubiera en lugar del condicional habría: Si yo hubiera manejado más rápido, yo hubiera llegado más temprano. Es correcto, pero no recomendamos hacerlo.
💂 Note: in some regions people use the subjunctive form hubiera instead of the conditional habría: Si yo hubiera manejado más rápido, yo hubiera llegado más temprano. It is correct, but we do not recommend doing so.

Tipo 3
Si me lo hubieras dicho, lo habría sabido. (If you had told me, I would have known.)

Si yo lo hubiera sabido, no habría hecho esto. (If I had known, I would have not done this.)
No habría hecho esto si lo hubiera sabido. (I would have not done this if I had known.)
Si me hubieras llamado, te lo podría haber dado. (If you had called me, I could* have given it to you.)
Te lo podría haber dado si me hubieras llamado. (I could have given it to you if you had called me.)
*En inglés, el verbo modal could puede funcionar como condicional sin necesidad del verbo modal would: I would give it to you, I would tell you, I would be able to do that, I could do that. (Yo te lo daría, yo te lo diría, yo podría hacer eso, yo podría hacer eso, respectivamente).

Combinando tipo 2 y tipo 3 (combining type 2 and type 3)
Como dijimos, no siempre necesitamos que la suposición y el condicional estén en el mismo tiempo.
💂 As we said, we do not always need the supposition and the conditional to be in the same tense.
Si hubiera estudiado más, ahora tendría un trabajo. (If I had studied more, I would have a job now.)
Ahora tendría un trabajo si hubiera estudiado más. (I would have a job now if I had studied more.)
Si me hubieras llamado ayer, hoy no estaría aquí. (If you had called me yesterday, I would not be here today.)
Hoy no estaría aquí si me hubieras llamado ayer. (I would not be here today if you had called me yesterday.)
Should, que también tiene valor condicional en inglés sin necesidad de usar would, se traduce siempre como debería (verbo deber, conjugado en condicional): If you had a million dollars, you should buy a large house. Si tuvieras un millón de dólares, deberías comprar una casa grande.
