It was a delight to meet with Nicolas and classmates every Monday night at 530 for level 4. Nicolas has a kind yet instructive style. He moves around the class to include everyone in sharing. He is so patient. I enjoyed getting a grip on direct and indirect objects, future tense and use of Haber, pedir vs preguntar, review of por/para etc. Unfortunately early on we had to move to an online platform which was an unavoidable compromise. At times we couldn’t hear Nicolas but then he’d become unfrozen with the BlueJeans platform. I would have liked more reading assignments and in general more practice on each topic (which I shared).

I completely understand that, due to COVID-19, the class had to move to an online format. However, I prefer classroom lessons when possible.

I thought the course was great. It was very helpful and Juan Carlos did a great job adapting to changing circumstances with COVID-19. I felt challenged in a positive way and that he enjoyed working with us and supporting us as we learned.

This course provided an excellent review of simple verb tenses covered in Levels 1-3 and the introduction of compound tenses, direct object and indirect object pronouns and their uses. The in-class review of the prior week's homework and opportunities to practice the new grammatical forms in context were consistently and masterfully guided by our instructor. Andres is extremely skilled in his ability to see what we don't understand or remember and his ability to clarify it in new ways is extremely deep -- to say nothing of his patience and kindness. Looking forward to the next Level.

These courses are laid out very well and take you through basic knowledge of verb conjugations and vocabulary. Mostly concentrated on verb conjugations and sentence structure. Level 4 is tough, but really good to know. I suggest that as a beginner after you finish this level, you try to absorb all the information and go to conversation class rather than level 5, as that level is intensive. Level 4 is a lot of info but as overwhelming as it was, if you have a good instructor, you will make it through. I have enjoyed these classes and I am looking forward to becoming more fluent over time. For 10 weeks, you get 1.5 hours a week in person, and that's pretty good for the price. If you're contemplating, just try it. It's worth it. The only drawback is with full classes as they allow up to 15 in the levels. That can be bit much and doesn't leave you much time to talk. So when they're smaller, it's nicer. Also, the support from Victor at the school, if you have any questions or issues, is great. He is very helpful!

This particular course was extremely difficult for me. There was a lot of information packed into the lessons that I didn’t pick up on as quickly as the others. That being said, I love Julia’s teaching style. She is patient and encouraging. She has exercises and tricks up her sleeve that help you practice the lessons in a lot of different ways. I will definitely be taking level 5 with her in the future!

The textbook is designed to help with Spanish grammar, but not very helpful in improving fluency. Incorporating some exercises to help students communicate with each other would be helpful.

The course didn't meet my expectations not because of the instructor who was very good, but because of the methodology that could be OK 20 years ago but not in 2020. There was no cultural references, no interesting activities, no videos or audios, only grammar and useless translations.

It was a great class but I was disappointed that the other students didn't show so I got private lessons every week!

I didn’t start studying Spanish until I was an adult and have been to 3 different schools trying to find the one that will teach me the best. Berges has taught me the most.

Love the grammatical approach. It really takes apart the language in a way that allows you to figure out the "rules" quickly and begin applying them. The mechanics of the object types and tenses really made sense in no time.

This was a very helpful course for me. I appreciated being in an almost exclusively Spanish speaking environment and getting a good volume of work completed in a weekly format.

I think it was great that I continued to expand my grammar in Spanish. But the course has almost no emphasis on learning vocabularies.

Great course overall. That said, I didn’t love the mix of topics in 4. The content felt a little random, and that made it was difficult to feel like I was progressing. But it was still a great class.

Solid. The last few weeks felt like we were "running out the clock" - the last couple lessons felt a bit as though they were stretched out to fill time (I say this as a *huge* fan of you guys - the logical focus of the class is wonderful).

I was remiss in not leaving this review after I finished taking Level 3 with Rolando Gonzalez. He is an excellent instructor and I look forward to repeating Level 4 with him. I usually take each level twice so I can proceed with confidence. I am almost 80 (most students are many decades younger) so that for me, this practice is best. I imagine most people don't need to take the class twice. I probably could go on to the next level easily but I love going to classes at Berges and Rolando is so good, engaging, and has a fine sense of humor. Lenore Salazar

This was my second class with professor N. The material was definitely more challenging than level 3 but Alejandro took the time to run us through exercises and drills to really lock it in. Highly recommend.

I started with Berges for Level 1 at the start of the year and have just completed Level 4. The material in this level seemed more complex, though the book does do a good job of explaining these complex topics (direct and indirect object pronouns etc.) The homework was useful as ever in helping practice. I also liked the short stories in the homework - it improved my confidence knowing that I could comprehend most of the text!

I am currently learning Spanish in any way I can including a meetup and investment in books. In reality I needed a structued approach with interaction which Berges provides including a test to gage my success. Well worth the commute from Connecticut.

The class was well-taught and planned. The text used is excellent. However, the final test is too long, contains trick questions, and some of the answers are debatable. It needs to be rewritten.

Each class started with the opportunity to practice our conversation skills and was then followed by a grammar lesson. Maria was able to make the content very accessible and really deepen my appreciation for and confidence in speaking Spanish. I am looking forward to taking the next level with her.

This course was the first post-college Spanish grammar class I have taken. I found it to be challenging but not overly difficult. I believe the grammar topics were well chosen but I think there should have been more drills instead of the time spent reading the workbook aloud.
