Frequently asked questions

I mainly need Spanish for parent-teacher conferences. Is conversational Spanish enough?

Yes. Parent-teacher conferences require clear, respectful conversation about student progress and behavior. Our program gives you exactly this foundation. You'll be able to discuss grades, homework, behavior, and concerns - the specialized education vocabulary will come naturally once you have conversational fluency.

Do you teach classroom management phrases or education terminology?

We focus on general conversational Spanish rather than specialized education vocabulary. However, many teachers find that once they're conversational, they can easily pick up classroom phrases and education terms through their daily work or supplementary resources.

How quickly can I start communicating with Spanish-speaking families?

Many teachers can handle basic parent communications within 10-15 months of consistent study. Our small group classes and grammar-based method help you progress quickly, and you can start using simple Spanish with families even earlier.

As someone who spoke absolutely no Spanish beyond sí / no / gracias, this class provided the foundation for exponential improvement and comprehension that has been extremely rewarding.

This is an easy on line class that moves quickly into using the words in Spanish from the first class. I am just in the beginner class but the lessons are well planned to give a structure to the grammar and my instructor is very supportive. I am enjoying the on line class very much.

This has been an excellent class. At least for me it moves at the perfect pace. We cover a lot of material, but not so quickly that I would fall behind. I had taken a bit of spanish in middle school about 20 years ago, and having that foundation was helpful, but this class was mostly new material anyway. The teacher was very friendly and helpful, and I liked the other class members I was learning with. It's been great struggling, succeeding, and improving alongside a group.

This course was exactly the right one for my level. The pacing and breadth of instructional content was very good for helping me build basic skills to continue learning. The instructors that I have experienced have all been very knowledgeable, patient and helpful.

Overall I found the structure of the introductory course to be very good. The topics and vocabulary seemed well matched. However, I do wish that the text book provided more in-class exercises that are separate from the homework exercises. More is always better when learning a language. Completing weekly homework that is a duplicate of what is done is class is not the most effective way of learning a language. Variety and repetition are the keys.
