Yes. Conversational fluency allows you to give instructions, explain procedures, and manage your team effectively. Once you're conversational, learning specific culinary terms and kitchen vocabulary happens naturally through daily work.
We teach general conversational Spanish. The specialized vocabulary for ingredients, cooking methods, and service procedures can be learned more easily once you have a conversational foundation. Many hospitality professionals supplement with industry-specific resources.
Many students can handle basic workplace conversations within 10-15 months of consistent study. You'll be able to give directions, ask questions, and explain tasks - specific hospitality terminology builds naturally on this foundation.
While we focus on conversational Spanish rather than customized vocabulary, once you're conversational you'll easily be able to discuss your specific menu items, ingredients, and preparation methods with both staff and guests.

I can't believe how far I have come in just 10 weeks of Spanish class through Berges. With the small group size of each class, I'm able to ask every question that comes up, review all of my homework, and get lots of practice speaking Spanish with my classmates and professor. Speaking of professors, I can not speak highly enough of Rolando. He is engaging, clear, and has lots of ways to explain the language that help me make sense of how it's different than English. This makes Spanish feel more natural to me, as opposed to always trying to translate in my head. The course gives a good structure to learn Spanish. I do use other resources to fill-in and this is reasonable as the course price is affordable and learning anything like a language must come from a myriad of experiences. The structure this course provides if vital and this program also gives me the necessary building blocks. The online flexiliblity of the course offers with 'live' classroom availability is important for learning, as well. Excellent foundation provided where I do not believe you can get anywhere else especially at this price point.
