I am loving the class and having homework to do helps a lot. The teacher is very good and putting in the work and learning is what you have to do.

I had done some self-study before joining the Berges beginners' course by listening to the free Language Transfer course by Mihalis Eleftheriou. This primer definitely gave me a head start with the Berges course, and maybe at the start it felt a little slow for me. Nonethetheless, it was very beneficial fo me to be able to interact with a native Spanish-speaking teacher as well as my classmates. It has already given me the confidence to engage in short basic conversations on my trips to Spain.
Luana is an excellent teacher, but on the occasions where I had to use a different teacher I found them all helpful and positive and learnt different things from each. It was also enjoyable to meet virtually with a range of other Spanish students around the world.

Since it had been over 20 years since I had taken Spanish, I needed to be able to start back at the beginning. This is a genuine beginner class, and it's been a great learning experience! To start, the class is being taught by a native speaker - which makes a HUGE difference. From being able to say what is formal, to what's ACTUALLY said in day to day (and how it may differ from country to country!), and hearing the correct pronunciation - that aspect is a game changer. REALLY looking forward to testing out what I've learned in the real world!

This has been a great introductory course to Spanish. It is fast paced, but the live classes force you to think on your feet and have conversations which is great. I'm really enjoying it and learning a lot. The homework reinforces what I learn.

This was exactly what I was looking for. My learning style is well supported by this classroom model and group process. Most Spanish lessons I found seem to be one-on-one tutors, which doesn't feel as helpful to me as a beginner yet. I appreciate the pacing and homework to keep practicing throughout the week.

Beginners Spanish has been a very good class overall. It helps to introduce students to the basics of Spanish. It is also a good baseline to prepare students who are interested in taking more complex levels later on. The textbook content also provides topics that are relevant to students daily lives, such as food, activities, places, etc.

The level I choose has NOTHING to do with our teacher (Claudia). She is doing a wonderful job. I wouldn't even say that the level I gave has to do with the material that the course uses. This level more reflects on the difficulty of teaching an on-line course and what I'd hope to get from the class. I even think part of it is that teachers are probably instructed to NOT encourage students to improve pronunciation, when (even to my untrained ears) I can hear that myself and other students ARE NOT pronouncing words correctly. Then you have students that clearly are not studying every week so the class moves along so slowly, which for me was frustrating. Not to mention the first to weeks of this 10 week course, we had a different teacher and it was confusing how she taught. The on-line class information was hard to follow, how courses, classes, assignments and things were linked was not clear and it was tough finding stuff on line.

Class is very appropriate for my level who has been only striding with app. I needed help with grammer and also interactive learning so I love the way how class is set up with. Teacher is very kind and patient

I have taken Spanish classes in the past, but was looking for a complete refresher - this course starts from the ground up, and was easy to follow and understand. Our instructor is really knowledgeable, infuses lessons with Latin American culture, and meets students where they are at.

I think the method of instruction is good however the course was still challenging for me having never studied the language before. I would like to see opportunities for additional learning like optional study groups with other students to practice and to reinforce the learning.
That said I enjoyed the course and will consider taking the next level course once I feel I have mastered this material. At this point (week 8) I am still stuggling to memorize all the vocab and the conjugation rules.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to learn Spanish with this method?
Most students become conversational after completing 5 levels (about 12-15 months of regular classes).
I've never studied Spanish before. Is this right for me?
Yes! Most of our students are complete beginners. We designed our Beginners classes specifically for people with zero Spanish experience.
Will I be embarrassed in class as a beginner?
No. All Beginners students start at zero. Our teachers create a supportive environment where making mistakes is part of learning.
How is this different from Spanish apps?
We teach grammar rules first, then practice. Apps make you guess patterns. Our method is faster for adults.
