Advanced Conversation

Advanced Conversation is an immersion course for the advanced student who is confident in his/her Spanish grammar knowledge and aims to improve oral and aural skills in the language through reading, debating, creating, and analyzing.

The course features individual presentations, discussions, and metalinguistic conversations in a ten-week setting that will dramatically improve your speaking and comprehension abilities.

Please note that, because we all learn at a different pace, 10 sessions at the Intermediate Conversation level may not be sufficient to reach an Advanced Conversation level. Students should consider re-enrolling on the Intermediate Conversation level to further improve fluency and proficiency before considering a higher conversational level. If you need help deciding, please request an oral assessment with us (it’s free!) and we’ll give you our insight.

Please also note that our instructors tend not to review grammar rules in conversation classes, as the most important thing is to keep the conversation flowing! If you want to review specific grammar topics, it’s best to take one of our regular L1-5 classes and/or private lessons :)

To take this level, you should have scored at least 24 points on our Online Placement Test and/or completed Intermediate Conversation at least once. For help deciding whether you are ready, schedule a free oral assessment.

Rolando is a gifted teacher. He a great conversationalist and a fantastic listener. Rolando makes his students feel comfortable expressing themselves. It would be easy for him to let grammer mistakes slide, however, he takes the time to correct them. In addition, he explains why one word maybe a better option than another (for example tratar (to try) vs. probar (to test or try) or why a phrase should be said in a particular order. This habit is extremely beneficial to the student who is practicing their Spanish and the students who are listening to the conversation. I look forward to my conversation classes with Rolando. Learning Spanish with Rolando is an exciting adventure!

This is a great course. As always with Berges, the instructor (Rolando) was top notch. He's curious, empathetic, and patient, and is very knowledgeable. The only downside to this course is that at times there are individuals who are clearly not at the advanced level. I understand they need to be exposed to those with more advanced Spanish to improve but I think Berges could do a better job vetting participants and maybe steering them to some private lessons before enrollment in an advanced course.

Estoy disfrutando este clase muchisimo. Los otros estudiantes son muy interesantes y inteligentes y por eso estamos, en además de conversaciónes de nuestros vidas y qué sucedió durante la semana pasada, estamos leyendo cuentos cortos de varios escritores. También escuchamos canciones y discutir las letras. Esto hace la clase muy cultural y muy divertido. Gracias Nicolás!

The advanced classes are not only instructive, but the subjects under discussion are always very interesting, meaningful, and sometimes just plain fun. I look forward to each class and highly recommend these classes, and Berges Institute in general, as a way to learn and improve your Spanish while having an enjoyable experience. Five stars!

Nicolas does a great job keeping the conversation interesting and at an appropriate level. The class has a good pace. We always have differing levels of proficiency and Nicolas is very good at keeping the learning and the interaction strong.
