The following word classes have number in Spanish:

  • Nouns

  • Pronouns

  • Adjectives

  • Determiners

  • Verbs

In nouns and pronouns, number marks express the idea of unity and plurality (one vs. more than one).

In Spanish, in general, we build the plural of a noun by adding -s or -es at the end: casa => casas, perro => perros, doctor => doctores.

Number in adjectives, determiners and verbs does not have an informative function. It's there to match the number in pronouns and nouns:

Ella es alta.

Ellas son altas.

La casa es bonita.

Las casas son bonitas.
